New Healthy Cooking Help 3.0
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
This disk contains over 1,000 recipes from Better Homes and
Gardens. The CD-ROM lets you take advantage of the computer
for many tasks from making a shopping list and planning
meals, to quickly searching through all the recipes. Below
you will find a description of each section along with
instructions for how to use all of the features.
Where Do I Start?
A good place to start is to choose a recipe. There are two
places where you can access the recipes:
Main Index
What's For Dinner
MAIN INDEX
How Do I Find a Recipe at the Main Index?
At the Main Index you can look at recipes in the New Healthy
Cooking collection, or you can look at the recipes which you
have entered yourself in the My Recipes section.
How Do I Find a Recipe in New Healthy Cooking?
1. Click on the Main Index Button at the top left of your
screen. This will take you to the Main Index.
2. Start by clicking once on the New Healthy Cooking button,
which is in the left-most column under the "Recipes From"
heading. You will see the chapters appear in the middle
column. You can select chapters based on food type, like
"Desserts," or sorted by alphabet like "A to E."
3. Select the chapter you would like to view by clicking
once on the chapter title. Use the scroll bar on the right
to view the entire list. The recipes in the chapter
selected will appear in the right column.
4. Select a recipe by clicking once. The preview photo for
that recipe will appear in the lower left hand corner of the
screen.
5. To view a recipe (instructions and ingredients) click
once on the preview photo, or double click on the recipe
title.
WHAT'S FOR DINNER
How Do I Find a Recipe in What's For Dinner?
The What's for Dinner section can help you decide what to
have for dinner. You can search either the New Healthy
Cooking collection, or all the Multicom Cookbooks that you
own. You can select the kind of ingredients that you want to
use, the amount of time you have to make the recipe, and you
can set nutritional guidelines such as low-fat, or low-
cholesterol.
When you have made all your selections, you will see the
number of recipes that match your criteria. Click in the
Recipes Found column on the right to view the recipe titles.
Double click the title of the recipe that you want to see,
and this will take you to the recipe.
When you get to the Recipe Level, you may browse your list
from What's for Dinner by using the Previous Recipe and Next
Recipe buttons that are above and to the right of the
preview photo.
1. Click on the What's For Dinner button at the top left of
your screen.
2. Select the ingredients that you want to use in the left
column, "Selecting Ingredients". When you click on an
ingredient, it will show up in the "Ingredients Selected"
list in the right hand column. Use the A-E, F-K, L-O, P-S,
and T-Z buttons below the ingredient list to quickly move
between sections of the list.
3. Next, choose which options you want to select in the
"Searching Options" column.
Cookbook: You have two choices under "Cookbook." You can
search the New Healthy Cooking recipes, or any other
Multicom CD-ROM cookbooks that you have installed by
selecting "All Multicom Cookbooks".
See below for more information about how to search other
Multicom Cookbooks.
Type of Dish: This lets you define the kind of meal you want
to find. The options are: Appetizers & Snacks; Main Dishes;
Side Dishes, Breads and Rolls; Soups, Salads and Sandwiches;
Desserts and Beverages.
Preparation Time: This will find all the recipes that will
work within your time schedule. If you only have 1/2 an
hour, you can quickly find those recipes whose preparation
time is 1/2 an hour or less. Note: there may also be baking
time or cooking times that are not included in the
preparation time.
Nutritional Parameters: You can search for the recipes which
meet your nutritional requirements. Simply use the drop down
menu to select what level of fat, saturated fat, calories,
cholesterol, potassium and sodium.
Click on the box below the category you want, and drag the
cursor down to the range that you want. It will then show up
in the box when the menu is gone. "Any Amount" indicates
that you will get recipes with all ranges of that nutrient.
How Do I Go to a Recipe from What's For Dinner?
Once the search is complete, you will see the number of
recipes that match your choices. To view the titles, click
where indicated in the Recipes Found box. To go to a recipe
from the list, double click on the title.
How Do I Search All Multicom Cookbooks?
There is a unique feature in the What's For Dinner section
that lets you search the other Multicom CD-ROM cookbooks
that you have installed.
1. Go to the What's For Dinner Screen.
2. Select the "All Cookbooks" button under the Cookbook
heading in the Search Options column. (During the
installation process New Healthy Cooking automatically
determines which if any other Multicom cookbooks that you
have installed on your hard drive. If you own a Macintosh
computer and have purchased any of the Multicom CD's after
you installed New Healthy Cooking, you need to run the
"Multicom Cookbook Updater". See "How Do I Use the Multicom
Cookbook Updater.")
3. Select the search criteria that you want. When you click
in the Recipes Found column, the recipes fitting your
guidelines will come up, arranged by Cookbook title. To view
a recipe from another Multicom CD, you must quit out of New
Healthy Cooking and put in the CD for the other cookbook.
For instance you may have bought the Cooking For Today--
Pasta title. When you search for "Tomato" in What's for
Dinner with the All Cookbooks choice selected, the recipes
from Cooking For Today containing tomatoes will be listed.
How Do I Use the Multicom Cookbook Updater?
This process only applies if you are using a Macintosh
computer and you have purchased a new Multicom Cookbook
after you installed New Healthy Cooking. It allows you to
search those new recipes from within the What's For Dinner
section of New Healthy Cooking. This process is automatic
on PC's.
1. Quit running New Healthy Cooking.
2. Locate the Multicom Cookbook Updater on the CD-ROM. The
file will appear in the same window as the installer.
3. Double click on the Multicom Cookbook Updater.
4. A dialog box will appear. Check the boxes next to the
Multicom cookbooks that you would like to verify. For the
other cookbooks not listed, this process is automatic.
5. When you have finished running the Updater, return to New
Healthy Cooking.

You can change the serving size of any recipe by using the

reflect the new number.
Once you have scaled a recipe, the new quantities are saved
for collating with the other recipes into your shopping list
when you click Show List.
How Do I Create a Shopping List for Multiple Recipes?
New Healthy Cooking will automatically combine the
ingredients for all the recipes sent to the shopping list
when you click Show List. It makes shopping easy by
combining similar ingredients in different recipes together
and dividing them up into categories like Fresh Produce or
Frozen Foods. For example if one recipe calls for 3 eggs
and another calls for 4, clicking Show List will produce a
list showing that you need to buy 7 eggs.
You can then edit the shopping list by clicking anywhere in
the list and deleting ingredients or adding your own. It's
that easy!
1. Send or Drag and Drop the recipes you wish to shop for
to the Shopping List Section.
2. Scale each recipe to a new size if desired. Please note
that scaling recipes may affect flavor so you should use
this technique only as a shopping guide.
3. Click Show List to collate all the recipes into one
ingredient list.
4. Click Print to print out your list.
